In Brief
Circulation Area: Boroughs of Sainte-Foy - Sillery and Laurentien, Quebec City

History:
The first issue of L'Appel appeared on May 5, 1945, making it a standard-bearer among weeklies in the Quebec City area. It was founded by Henri-Paul Gauvin - who presided over operations for 37 years - and was initially distributed to households in Sillery. Its territory then gradually expanded to include Sainte-Foy, Cap-Rouge, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures and L'Ancienne-Lorette. The Val-Bélair sector became part of the area after the 2002 municipal mergers.

Once part of the Unimédia group, L'Appel was picked up by Transcontinental in February 2001, following the company's acquisition of a string of other Quebec weeklies, including L'Actuel, Charlesbourg Express and Québec Express. Later, Beauport Express, Quebec Hebdo and L'Autre Voix also became part of the group of weeklies.

L'Appel celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2005.
