Coverage: MRC Mekinac and des Chenaux
Foundation
L'Hebdo Mékinac/Des Chenaux was founded in the fall of 1984, welcomed by both the population and business communities of Saint-Tite, Sainte-Thecle and Herouxville, where it quickly satisfied an urgent need: At last, they had a newspaper they could call their own.
It all began with three special issues published by L'Hebdo du Saint-Maurice and devoted exclusively to the Mekinac region. The public response was such that management decided to create a monthly to serve the Saint-Tite/Normandie area. In less than three years, the publication became a bimonthly, and finally a weekly, called L'Hebdo Saint-Tite/Normandie. A few years later, its circulation spilled over the borders of the Mekinac region all the way to Des Chenaux. In October 1994, the paper was rechristened L'Hebdo Mékinac/Des Chenaux to reflect the new state of affairs.
