Foundation:
The first issue of Cités Nouvelles, the only weekly in Montreal's West Island, appeared on March 17, 1974, published by Les Publications Sept Jours inc. Initial circulation was 15,000 copies. A year later, the Allard brothers gave editorial control to their brother Guy, who eventually bought the paper in 1977. He remained the owner until 1984 when he sold Cités Nouvelles to Cogeco.
The weekly went bilingual in 1986, increasing its circulation to 65,000 copies and covering all the communities in the West Island. Cités Nouvelles has been part of the Transcontinental Newspaper Group since December 1996.
