With a circulation of just under 35,000, it is an effective source of regional news and information for the residents of LaSalle, a borough of the newly amalgamated city of greater Montreal. In addition to the editorial content, Le Messager has a popular classifieds section that is widely consulted.
In Brief
Coverage: Borough of LaSalle

Foundation:
The year 1954 was a milestone for LaSalle residents, in economic and political terms. One of the major events occurring then was the launch of Le Messager de LaSalle, a large-format paper founded by Henri Duhamel, Sr. and Roger Gagnon, two key figures in the history of Quebec weekly newspapers.

Born during an election campaign, Le Messager quickly became a true institution in its community, playing a role in the forging of a distinct "LaSalle identity."

Long owned by the Duhamel family - Henri Duhamel Sr., then his son, Henri Jr. - Le Messager de LaSalle was sold to the Cogéco group in the 1980s, who turned it into a tabloid. It is now part of the Transcontinental group.
